On joining the team at Google UK

by RosieS on September 27, 2012

This is a slightly self-indulgent post, but everyone should write a self-indulgent post once in a while, especially when there’s good news to share.

I’ve written a great deal on this blog about my ambitions to work in marketing, my frustrations at the limited opportunities available, and my determination to eventually find the right role for the two of us as a family.

Well, occasionally life takes an unexpected turn, because amazingly, surprisingly and totally unexpectedly, I’ve done it. I’ve taken on a fabulous role with a rather large brand and I am more than a little excited.

The title of this post is a bit of a giveaway, but in case it isn’t obvious I’m joining the Google team as an independent Google+ community manager. My focus will be on the parenting sector, which will include working with parent bloggers. So it’s a double-win in my book.

For me this is huge and I’m thrilled to bits. The whole family is. There’s been a sense of excitement and nervous anticipation here for several weeks now.

This has made all the studying, all the training, all the searching and all those years of frustration worthwhile.

We moved away from the south when IJ was two and I’ve missed it. Finally I’m able to go back, for a couple of days a week at least. The rest of my week will be spent working from home, which is the perfect balance for us.

It will also stop me from buying up the whole of Oxford Street while I’m in London because I won’t be based there all week, although I’m allowing myself the odd trip to Selfridges as a treat.

I hope you’ll stay with me as a tread the Google path and circle me on Google+ so I can spend time chatting with you. You’ll also find my newly formed blog page here.

If anyone ever says that blogging is a waste of time and doesn’t get you anywhere, let them read this post. If I didn’t write a blog I wouldn’t have this life-changing opportunity. I wouldn’t be writing this now. I would not be the cusp of something amazing.

This, for me, my friends, is awesome.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me reach this point.

Well done! What fantastic taste Google has. Ok so I’m totally puzzled by Google+ (although, with you working for them, perhaps I’ll start to understand it!) but Google in general… well, my friends don’t call me Google queen for nothing ;) I wouldn’t be as good as a translator as I am if it wasn’t for having the help of Google to research my translations in-depth ever since… well, let’s just say it’s their 14th birthday today and I was already translating professionally then ;) Best of luck in your new role and enjoy Selfridges!

Reply

RosieS September 27, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Thanks Maria. You out my language skills to shame. I’ve got family who would be interested to hearing about you using Google translate, so I’ll remind them about the service. As for Google+, hopefully it will all become less puzzling in the very near future. I’m working on it!
